“I think I was born to be an artist,” says Watcharin, who holds a bachelor’s and a Master’s degree in Fine Art from Silpakorn University in Bangkok. “I began early with realistic paintings and have moved through impressionistic and semi abstract stages to microscopic views on large canvases. I continue refining and changing techniques and incorporate all of it today to express what I am feeling in my work. I am on an artistic path that keeps changing form.”
Jay-Da, an artist trained by the school of lift, left her academic education behind early to help her siblings and drew her art teachings from nature, people and situations. “I feel very connected to the idea that when the student is ready, the teacher appears,” says Jay-Da. “My work is intentionally abstract and contemporary and incorporates paint, stones, beads and other things on canvas. Nature’s colors are reflected in my paintings. I like working in sets, like using three to five interrelated pieces around one theme, painted in an abstract way to support whatever emotional reaction the viewer has to the feelings I am expressing.”
Together, Watcharin and Jay-Da present a unique blend of individuality and portray this concept clearly in their theme of “One Yin, One Yang” for their joint exhibition. “We each paint in our own way and really don’t influence the other’s work,” says jay-Da. “We never tell each other how to paint and as a result, each of us brings an entirely different perspective to the whole panorama of life and art. As we express ourselves individually, we see that our work is harmonious and contributes to the greater view of life, opposite sides of the same thing.” Togeter they have sold their work to clients from twenty different countries.
Mom Tri’s Boathouse Gallery will be open daily, except on Mondays, in April from noon to 9:00 p.m. for art enthusiasts to view Watcharin and Jay-Da Rodnit’s work. Additionally, Watcharin will conduct art classes at the gallery on Wednesday and Friday afternoons during the month long exhibit for those interested in improving their painting techniques. The couple own and operate Rinda Magical Art on Yaowarat Road in Phuket and can be contacted at 06-691-7839 or 09-289-8852
